A Playful Reception Igniting Economic Imagination
Step into a space where economics feels like an adventure, not just spreadsheets. ROC Economy, designed by Tjep. in 2007 for the economics department at ROC Apeldoorn vocational school in the Netherlands, transforms the reception area into a "temple for economics." It blends whimsy and wisdom to inspire students to make choices driven by passion, not just profit.
Icons of Industry on a Symbolic Floor
The space features a vibrant linoleum floor with bright yellow icons—pencils, gears, airplanes—representing commerce and innovation. At its center, a student figure cradles an oversized heart, a bold symbol of decisions rooted in purpose, setting the stage for ethical, inspired learning.
Functional Furniture as Economic Metaphors
Tjep. infuses meaning into every element: a reception desk shaped like shipping crates nods to global trade, a five-meter key-shaped table symbolizes real estate opportunities, and stools resembling calculator buttons reflect finance's numeric language. A table football game with a mini-stadium adds playful energy, turning waits into fun strategy moments.
Tjep.’s Visionary Spark in Learning Spaces
More than a redesign, ROC Economy showcases Tjep.'s talent for blending bold symbols with playful function, much like Clockwork Love’s narrative depth and Oogst’s innovative forms. Frank Tjepkema calls it a space “full of symbols” to make economics relatable, proving vocational training can spark creativity.
Building Futures, One Icon at a Time
Engaging and lasting, ROC Economy shows how one reception can redefine a discipline. Discover more of Tjep.'s transformative designs on Tjep.com, where creativity shapes learning.
