A Welcoming Space for Care and Compassion
Step into a reception area that feels like a warm embrace, where caregiving is woven into every detail. ROC Care, designed by Tjep. in 2007 for the healthcare department at ROC Apeldoorn vocational school in the Netherlands, creates a sanctuary that inspires students to embrace empathy and dedication in their path to becoming healthcare professionals.
Heartfelt Design Rooted in Human Connection
The space features a vibrant linoleum floor with soft, organic shapes—swirling hands and hearts in soothing tones—symbolizing nurturing bonds. At its center, a stylized caregiver figure stands as a quiet reminder of compassion, urging students to prioritize care over routine.
Furniture as Symbols of Healing
Tjep. infuses meaning into functional elements: a reception desk curved like an outstretched arm suggests support, communal tables shaped like interlocking hands encourage collaboration, and cozy seating resembling soft bandages nods playfully to medical care, fostering a space for connection and reflection.
Tjep.’s Visionary Touch in Learning Spaces
Led by Frank Tjepkema and Janneke Hooymans, with production by Iris and consultancy from Kunst en Bedrijf, ROC Care blends symbolic depth with approachable design, echoing the narrative warmth of Clockwork Love and the innovative spirit of Oogst. It shows that spaces can nurture as much as they teach.
Shaping Caregivers, One Symbol at a Time
Gentle yet impactful, ROC Care proves one reception can inspire a lifetime of healing. Explore more of Tjep.’s transformative designs on Tjep.com, where empathy meets innovation.
