A Symbol of Love’s Duality

Love is precious, yet hearts shatter under its weight—a truth Heartbreak captures with poignant elegance. This interactive necklace from Tjep.'s visionary studio celebrates the fragility of romance alongside life's resilient strength, inviting wearers to confront emotional rupture in a tangible, transformative act.

Crafted for Breaking

Crafted in 2007 as part of the Chi ha paura...? (CHP) jewelry line, Heartbreak features a delicate porcelain heart encasing a protective rubber core, tethered by a slender titanium chain to a lightweight titanium hammer. Strike the heart, and it fractures into visible cracks—symbolizing a mended spirit's scars—yet remains intact, never fully apart. As Frank Tjepkema reflects: “This piece celebrates both the fragility of romance and the strength of life.” The rubber lining ensures durability, turning breakage into a metaphor for recovery, where fissures become guiding lines for future journeys.

From Tjep.'s acclaimed breakable porcelain series—alongside Do Break and Shock Proof — Heartbreak stands alone as the sole purchasable piece, blending industrial precision with emotional poetry. Its innovative design, merging fragile ceramics with unyielding metals, earned acclaim in the "12 Icons" collection and exhibitions at Moss Gallery in New York.
