A Compact, Futuristic Pod Where Solitude Meets Sustainability
Imagine a compact, futuristic pod where solitude meets sustainability—a home that nurtures you with everything from fresh produce to clean air, all without stepping beyond its walls. Oogst 1 Solo, conceived by Tjep. in 2009 as the inaugural piece in our visionary Oogst ("harvest") series, redefines independent living for a single resident.
A Cross-Shaped Micro-Farm for Independent Living
This cross-shaped micro-farm stands as an elegant testament to closed-loop ecosystems, harnessing wind and solar power to deliver food, energy, heat, and oxygen in perfect harmony. The heart of the design is the central living zone: a cozy nexus blending kitchen, bathroom, storage, and living room, crowned by a lofted bedroom for serene repose.
Radiating Outward: Greenhouse, Henhouse, and Recycling
Radiating outward, one arm expands into a lush greenhouse teeming with vegetables and herbs, while another dedicates space to recycling processes and a small henhouse yielding eggs (and the occasional sustainable protein source). Every system—from the rooftop windmill generating electricity to the integrated solar panels—is deliberately visible, inviting residents to engage with and maintain the magic of self-sufficiency.
Sustainability as the Blueprint Sustainability isn't an afterthought; it's the blueprint. Plants within the airtight structure transform exhaled CO2 into breathable oxygen, shielding inhabitants from urban pollution while producing daily harvests. Powered solely by renewable sources, the pod minimizes its footprint, deployable almost anywhere—from urban rooftops to serene waterfronts—without tethering to external grids or supplies.
The Foundation of the Oogst Vision
As the foundational design in the Oogst lineage, it paves the way for our larger-scale visions: Oogst 100, a communal farm for 100 dwellers, and Oogst 1000 Wonderland, an expansive self-reliant paradise for a thousand. Oogst 1 Solo isn't just a dwelling; it's a provocative prototype challenging how we envision autonomy in an interconnected world.
