Title Three pulpits for the Kunsthal Description The Kunsthal is an architectural masterpiece by Rem Koolhaas. The building is filled with conceptual thinking, however the furniture does not benefit from the same intelligence as if the architect had stopped thinking at the point where he stopped designing the building and started to design the furniture. Therefore we made three propositions for new pulpits for the auditorium, to prove that furniture design is not in any way subordinate to architecture. a) In the first proposition three microphones can be accessed through stairs at the back of a wooden wall, depending on how self confident the lecturer is he can choose between three levels of protection b) In the last proposition the speaker also has a choice: "shall I stand behind the open or closed pulpit?" c) In the second proposition the logo of the Kunsthal has been placed on a cardboard box. This seemed quite appropriate as the logo comes from the packaging industry. The logo naturally points towards the speaker, so a new logo was designed for the other side of the box that points towards the public. Client Design Academy Eindhoven (study) Status Concept |
