Stilts
To celebrate excellence in the art of teaching, the University of Amsterdam introduced an award for the best teacher of the year. Tjep. was asked to design the award, and proposed to offer the best teacher a pair of golden stilts.
Not only does this proposal symbolize the act of attracting the attention to someone special by lifting him up into the sunshine, but the stilts also imply that even the very best teacher should remain an eternal student. Indeed there is always more to learn, such as walking on a pair of very high ... stilts.
The proportions of the stilts are based on The Golden Ratio and the number Phi.
The best teacher is offered the pair of golden stilts for a period of one year. They are then passed on to the next best teacher of the year. The nominated teachers are offered a pair of traditional wooden stilts.
