When you study the cultural and religious symbols present during marriage rituals you will find that there a many similarities and parallels around the world. There are more things that unify than separate the diversity of ceremonies worldwide, and we found that the ultimate symbol of reminiscent of all cultures is the wedding cake, hence the general shape of our chapel. The House of Yes is inspired by universal marriage symbols found all over the world, celebrating not only the bond between two individuals but also the the diversity of people.
The House of Yes combines several marriage related icons into the ultimate marriage chapel celebrating the union in love by two individuals. The general typology op the chapel is that of an open box revealing a spiral formed lace ribbon. As this central spiral forms a beautiful mystical and ephemeral inner space, from the outside it can also be contemplated as a larger than life abstract wedding cake.
The House of Yes is:

• Open for all forms of marriage regardless of personal inclinations.
An elevator rises the couple to the top of the cake when the ceremony has declared their union, followed by the guests on the spiral ramp. As the couple arrives on top the whole gathering is naturally positioned for an unforgettable wedding picture. As the couple walks down in seven revolutions they are blessed by all the guests, once back in the chapel the actual wedding cakes is positioned at the heart of the chapel.
The box shaped basis and the chapel offer a wonderful space for the marriage party to unfold. On warm days the facade completely opens to the surrounding nature. Entering the core of the chapel one is struck by the beautiful spiraling movement of the building that is consequently pulled through the floor all the way to the very center: the most sacred place in the chapel where the official ceremony takes place.
There are many features and details that make this house unique and exciting:
The lace facade symbolises connection and union. The pattern was generated using computer algorithms to mimic natural growth. Circles in the façade are left empty to add names of couple who have married and make the chapel a celebration of the union of people.
The sound and cool temperature of the water will convey a feeling of symbolic purification.

The outside stairs form an amphi-theater that underlines the role of guests as witnesses as well as the public announcement of the marriage.
The House of Yes does not display any explicit religious symbols as it has the ambition to represent union in general. The House of Yes is open to every possible conviction, faith or sexual orientation.
From the core to the top the spiral has seven revolutions. The number 7 is attributed with many symbolic meanings that are appropriate to the ceremony of marriage, from eternal life for the Egyptians to divine abundance in the bible and many more such as: perfection, virginity, luck, union of opposites, etc…
The House of Yes uses natural forces and renewable energy to provide for a comfortable space.
Ventilation is secured by utilising the natural buoyancy effect of warm air which is amassing in the top of the tower. This is creating a natural flow of air that increases naturally when needed, either by radiation of the sun on a warm day and/or a crowd of people dissipating body heat in the central chapel hall.
The buoyancy effect pulls air through an underground duct system that utilises the stable temperature of deeper soil, preheating the cold outside air in winter and pre-cooling the air of a warm summer before entering the building.
Further heating and cooling is provided with a heat pump that uses a combination of air temperature and pre-treated air flowing through the deeper soil, regulating energy for the water based heating and cooling in floors and ceilings in the box and cake.
